USE OF LADDERS FOR MOORING – PROHIBITED

Notice is hereby given that harbour access ladders, including ladder heads and associated structures, are not designed for securing vessels and must not be used for mooring purposes. It has been observed that vessels are making fast to ladder heads when berthing. This practice presents a significant safety risk and may result in damage to harbour infrastructure, as well as compromise safe access and egress.

INSTRUCTIONS TO MARINERS

All vessels are hereby directed as follows:
• Vessels must only be secured to designated mooring fixtures, including bollards, cleats, or other approved fittings.
• Under no circumstances are ladders or ladder heads to be used for mooring lines.
• Masters and skippers are responsible for ensuring their vessels are always secured in a safe and proper manner.

ENFORCEMENT

Failure to comply with this Notice may result in:
• Issue of a Dock Master’s Direction
• Withdrawal or refusal of berthing permission
• Recovery of costs for any damage caused.

This Notice is issued for the safety of all harbour users and the protection of harbour infrastructure. All mariners are requested to comply with the above requirements.

Ladder Installation – Restricted Access

Mariners are advised that essential installation of new harbour access ladder will be carried out on 14th August 2026 to the fish quay crane ladder.

During the installation the ladder will be out of service and clearly marked with “NO ACCESS” signage. Mariners are requested to navigate with caution in the vicinity of the works and to follow the instructions of marina staff. The Starboard vertical light on the end of the Fish Quay at the entrance to Exmouth Marina has been replaced.

The light will be replaced as soon as possible. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution.

special notice from our directors

After the dramatic events of 14th-16th January, when a 250kg WW2 bomb was dredged up from Exmouth Marina, we’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the staff at Exmouth Marina for all their bravery and hard work. The team stepped up immediately, working quickly with local police to establish a safety cordon, alerting members of the public, communicating the danger via the Marina website and social media, and assisting with the evacuation of Marina flats and businesses.

As well as taking the bomb disposal officer to the dredging vessel, where the bomb remained, the Marina team worked inside the exclusion zone through the night alongside the Police, Army and local authorities. Throughout Thursday, the team kept the bomb-laden dredger secured to the dockside, with its machinery working, helping to ensure the bomb remained as stable as possible. This was extremely brave, and provided pivotal support to the experts as they worked to assess the situation and move the device to a specialised disposal vessel. The bomb was taken out to sea and detonated at a safe depth and distance at around 8am on Friday 16th January.

Working to support the military, emergency services and local agencies, the Marina team carried out their roles with true professionalism, unquestioning bravery and a willingness to go far above and beyond. We are truly grateful for everything they did, and immensely proud of them, too.

Notice to mariners 15/01/26

Exmouth Marina – Closure Until Further Notice

Mariners are advised that Exmouth Marina is closed with immediate effect and until further notice due to the presence of a suspected unexploded ordnance (UXO) within the marina area.

The Exmouth Dock Company is working closely with the relevant authorities to assess the situation and ensure the safety of all personnel and water users. At this time, no further information is available, and access to the marina is prohibited.

Further updates will be issued as soon as more information becomes available.

Mariners are requested to keep clear of the marina and comply with all instructions from authorities.
